Cutting Edge Laser Joins Westminster Event as MD Named in The Great 100 2025

We had a fantastic day in Westminster last week with the Made in Group, joining manufacturers, industry leaders and policymakers for discussions focused on the future of British industry.

The day started at the House of Lords, with speeches and discussions highlighting the importance of coming together as a sector. Central to these conversations were the first insights from the Made in Group’s SME Industrial Strategy Survey, a major piece of work capturing the real priorities, pressures and ambitions of UK manufacturers.

Cutting Edge Laser was proud to be part of these discussions, contributing to a clear message: UK manufacturers are ambitious, actively investing, and calling for a stable, long-term industrial strategy to support future growth. The session highlighted the strength, resilience and forward-thinking mindset across the sector, as well as the importance of continued dialogue between industry and government.

Later, we joined the Parliamentary Reception and the official launch of The Great 100, a new initiative recognising business leaders, mentors and community champions who are ‘Backing Britain’ and helping British manufacturers grow and succeed. The Great 100 highlights individuals making a real difference – creating jobs, supporting local suppliers, driving innovation, promoting sustainability, and helping young people start careers in manufacturing.

The awards celebration took place at the Century Club in Soho, hosted by Lord Whitby, Chairman of Made in Group. At the reception, over 120 Made in Group members and supporters called on the government to support British manufacturers through fairer procurement policies and a national Buy British approach, giving domestic businesses meaningful opportunities to compete for public contracts.

We’re proud to share that our Managing Director, Andrew Millington, has been named among the first Great 100 class for 2025. Andrew was recognised in the Resilience Drivers category, which celebrates supply chain specialists and operations leaders strengthening the UK’s industrial backbone through smart, agile thinking. It’s a well-earned recognition and a great reflection of the work he does to support our customers and the wider manufacturing community.

Andrew commented, “It’s a real privilege to be included among so many outstanding individuals who are driving British manufacturing forward. Celebrating the talent, innovation and dedication across our sector is so important, and I’m proud to be part of it.”

3. What’s been the biggest milestone in the past 12 months?

In the past year, we’ve made a major investment in a new 30kW laser power source — one of the most advanced laser cutting systems available in the world along with our 320ton / 4M CNC press brake. This gives us the ability to cut thicker gauge materials and fold with incredible precision and speed, offering greater flexibility to our clients while improving turnaround times across the board.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in our mission to remain at the forefront of laser technology and support our customers with unmatched capability.

4. Any exciting developments on the horizon?

Looking ahead, we’re continuing to expand both our capacity and our team. The 30kW laser and 320t press are just two key parts of a wider plan to scale up our operations, introduce smarter scheduling systems, and explore automation technologies that will help us serve our customers even more efficiently. We’re also working closely with local partners to strengthen our supply chain and build long-term resilience into everything we do.

5. Something surprising or little-known about us…

Despite the high-tech nature of our work, we’re a proudly Yorkshire-based business with deep roots in the local manufacturing community. Many of our team members have been with us for over a decade, and we’re passionate about training the next generation of specialists through apprenticeships and skills development.

Improving Space and Efficiency on Our Shop Floor

We’ve recently completed a major upgrade to our shop floor with the installation of brand-new racking.

Installing the new racking was a big operation, taking place over several days. Our team worked carefully to remove the old system, bring in the new racks, and get everything set up correctly. Even while the installation was happening, we carried on with our everyday operations to minimise the impact on our customers, ensuring their projects kept moving.

What difference does the new racking make?

✔️ More storage space: We can carry more stock, which means faster turnarounds on customer projects.
✔️ Better mobility: With central floor space freed up, there’s more room to move around the shop floor safely and efficiently.
✔️ Improved efficiency: Organising stock and materials is easier than ever, helping our supply chain run smoothly.

This upgrade is all about keeping our production running smoothly for our customers. It gives us the flexibility to handle larger projects, respond faster to orders, and maintain the high standards our customers expect from Cutting Edge Laser.

We are excited to announce that Cutting Edge Laser is now a Gold member of Made in Yorkshire. Over the past year, being part of the Made in Yorkshire community has delivered real value to our business. From strengthening our regional network to increasing our visibility within the manufacturing sector, the experience has reinforced the importance of collaboration and connection across Yorkshire’s manufacturing community.

Upgrading to Gold membership felt like a natural next step.

The enhanced visibility, improved branding opportunities, and greater access to events and peer groups that come with Gold membership align closely with our growth ambitions. As a business, we’re keen to play a more active role within the network — not just as participants, but as contributors — sharing insight, building relationships, and supporting the wider manufacturing community.

As Sales Manager Pierino Vatta explains:
